What is My Number Card?
In addition to being used to document your My Number, the My Number Card is entering into increasingly wide use in daily life, for example as a form of ID, in online applications for government services, and in online private-sector transactions.
We're working to put in place an environment conducive to safe use of the card from technical and operational perspectives so that residents of Japan can use their My Number Cards safely and securely.
There are more and more things your card can do.

- Filing your taxes
- Completing procedures relating to child-raising
- Obtaining healthcare
- In the future, using your card as a hospital registration card, etc.

Use your card in lieu of a health insurance card!
- • Share information about special check-ups and drugs with your doctor and pharmacist so that you can receive even better care!
- • Enjoy being exempt from payments in excess of the maximum amount, even if you don’t have an Eligibility Certificate for Ceiling-Amount Application.
- • You’ll need to apply in advance to use your card this way.
- *Not all medical institutions accept the My Number Card in lieu of a health insurance card.

Obtain various certificates at convenience stores!
Make moving more convenient when you use the Mynaportal!
- • You can use your My Number Card and the Mynaportal to simultaneously report a move and make an appointment to register as a resident in your new city, ward, town, or village online.
- • You won’t need to visit your local government office to report a move.
- *However, you will need to visit your new city, ward, town, or village office to verify your identity.
- *Some individuals, including some people with national health insurance, will need to visit a government office to complete an additional procedure.

What if I lose my card?
- • Your card includes a facial picture to prevent people from impersonating you!
- • Highly private personal data is not stored on the IC chip!
- • Personal authentication functionality can’t be used without a password!
- • The IC chip will break if someone tries to read it illegitimately.
- • You can cancel the card if you lose it 24 hours a day, 365 days a year!
Your card has an expiration date!
- • If you were 18 or older when your My Number Card was issued, the expiration date of your card is your 10th birthday after the issue date.
- • If you were under 18 when your My Number Card was issued, the expiration date of your card is your fifth birthday after the issue date.
- • A notification will be sent 2 to 3 months before the expiration date.
- *Regardless of age, the expiration date of the electronic certificate is your fifth birthday after its issuance.
For smoother emergency response!
- • In the “My Number Emergency” system, paramedics use your My Number health insurance card to view medical information such as hospitals you’ve visited in the past and medications prescribed to you.
- • This practice helps reduce the burden on the patient and accompanying family members and is used to ensure the patient receives more appropriate treatment.
